Overview

After researching, we were unable to locate the building code adoption ordinance.

Navajo County, AZ adopts the following codes:

  • The International Building Code, 2015 edition.
  • The International Residential Code, 2015 edition, including Appendices A, D, I, J, K, L, M, O, and T.

Residential Building Code

Arizona has yet to adopt a statewide residential code. Local laws will control.See PLRB, Arizona Building Codes for more information on state level codes.

Navajo County adopted the 2015 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Contacted Donald Perkins, Senior Building Inspector, (8/18/2020) who informed us that ice barriers are required.

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Navajo County adopted the 2015 IBC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

After researching, we were unable to locate the fire code adoption ordinance. The State Fire Code applies in any jurisdiction where no fire prevention code is provided for locally. Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 34-461A. The state promulgated and enforces a State Fire Code, based on the 2012 International Fire Code.
